PERENNIAL POWERHOUSES AWAIT FIRST-ROUND FOES

Six months after another roller-coaster campaign began, one word now defines the 2009 season: October. The postseason picture is rapidly taking shape across the bigs, as perennial powerhouses like the Yankees, Angels, Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers and Phillies have already clinched playoff spots. As those clubs wait to see who will join them in the chase for a title, a series of individual battles like the AL MVP and NL Cy Young races remain tightly contested. So how will it all shake out? Find out by tuning in as October begins.
