Clicking again while Jacoby breaks
the steals record and Wake returns!

We've really had to fight for every win we've gotten over the last few weeks. Last night, however, felt a little different -- at least to me. We had some quality pitching throughout the game and what really impressed me was how our lineup is coming together. Last night, Victor Martinez and Nick Green both started on the bench. These are guys who have been starters pretty much all season long, but after Jason Varitek doubled in the seventh inning, Green came in to pinch run for him, and Victor pinch-hit for Alex Gonzalez. Martinez promptly singled to tie the game. While watching these events unfold at my desk here in the Front Office, I finally had a feeling that this team was really coming together. Martinez would later follow Jason Bay's go-ahead home run with a double which scored Nick Green again. This is how it's supposed to work.

Prior to all of these events however, those lucky enough to be here, or watching from home last night got to see some history made at Fenway Park as Jacoby stole his 55th base of the season, breaking the great Tommy Harper's single-season Red Sox steals record in the process! Sadly, this stolen base may not be everyone's favorite -- that title probably goes to Jacoby's World Series steal which earned everybody in the country a free taco. Last night's record-breaking steal does rank pretty high for me though -- admittedly because with all the celebrations surrounding the World Series in 2007, I never did get around to getting my free taco. (Yes, it is all about me ... at least when it comes to free food.)

Lastly -- I'm happy to announce the creation of a new section of this Insider newsletter which will be featured from time-to-time. The section is called "Two Truths and a Lie." This week, I'm going to focus on the newly-acquired Billy Wagner. I'll give you three statements about Billy, and you have to guess which two statements are true and which is the lie. I think you'll enjoy this one, so check it out below.

All the best from inside the Front Office and looking forward to seeing Wake back on the mound tonight!
"The Voice of the Nation"

PS -- Wishing all the best to the family and friends of Ted Kennedy. He was a champion of many great causes for the state of Massachusetts and the people of our country. As you all might remember, Ted started this season with a touching Opening Day Ceremonial First Pitch. He will be missed.

PPS -- As always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please email me at insider@redsox.com and let me know. Somehow I get the feeling that I'll be receiving many alpaca-related questions this week ...
