 | | Tied for the lead in the Wild Card again and departing for a Front Office getaway! So, great (albeit a little nerve-racking) news last night! Yeah, sure, Beckett got knocked around a lot more than we're accustomed to seeing lately, but on the positive side our offense came alive in a big way -- scoring 10 runs, including home runs from David Ortiz and Jason Bay. It was great to see Ortiz and Bay get their power-strokes going again last night (something we'll need down the stretch). Just as good to see however was that every member of the starting lineup collected at least one hit. That's the kind of production we'll need if we're going to make a run at the Yankees and the Division title. Now, we are by no means out of the woods or on our way to a certain playoff spot -- far from it. But we're right back in the fight and with Youk back in the lineup, and our team (minus Dustin Pedroia last night I might add) has shown some signs of coming out of the offensive slump we had been in. It's also worth noting that Alex Gonzalez has stepped in effortlessly and seems right back at home in a Red Sox uniform. And from the e-mails I received last week, it sounds like there are a lot of people in Red Sox Nation who are pretty excited about his return as well. As you may have seen, yesterday we announced the signing of 10 more of our draft signings from this year's First-Year Player Draft. When the clock struck midnight on Monday, we had signed all five of our top five draft picks and 14 of our top 15 selections! I hope you are beginning to enjoy watching our prospects develop as much as I am. This week (as you'll see below), I've decided to highlight some recent accomplishments from two of our top prospects down in AA Portland -- Outfielder Ryan Kalish and Catcher Juan Apodaca. Luckily for those of us in the Front Office, the organization is letting us take an up-close and personal look at some of our top prospects today as they're taking us all down to Pawtucket to watch this afternoon's game! It's going to be hot and possibly a little rainy, but we're pretty excited to get out and actually watch a baseball game today. (It's kind of ironic: I've found that you actually attend and watch far fewer games when you're working for a baseball team than you would have if you were a fan. So today is going to be a lot of fun for those of us who don't always get to be a fan at the games at Fenway!) So, with that in mind, I'll cut it short, because as I write this, our bus is about to leave. As you read this, we'll probably already be down in Pawtucket, cheering the team on! I can't wait to see Wake, Rocco, Kottaras, and some of the other guys again! All the best from, well, Pawtucket I guess!
