DODGERS CLINCH POSTSEASON BERTH

The Dodgers will be going to the National League playoffs for the fourth time in six years. Joe Torre's club clinched an NL playoff berth on Saturday night when they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-4. The Dodgers' magic number for winning the National League West crown is now 3.

Any combination of Dodgers wins and Rockies losses equaling 3 will give the Dodgers the NL West title. The Rockies were playing the Cardinals Saturday night. Torre has now earned a 14th consecutive postseason appearance as manager, tying Atlanta's Bobby Cox for the all-time record.

The NL playoffs will begin on Wednesday, October 7.
