POSTSEASON SPRINT STARTS WITH LATE-SUMMER MOVES

An action-packed 2009 campaign has kicked into high gear with the start of September, as baseball's stretch run is truly upon us. A slew of late-summer deals fueled the postseason chase out west, as the Dodgers acquired Jon Garland and Jim Thome, the Rockies nabbed Jose Contreras and the Giants inked Brad Penny. As these clubs bolstered their rosters by adding seasoned veterans, others sought to keep their postseason hopes alive by adding fresh talent to the mix with September callups. So which moves will pay off? That remains to be seen, but with close races heating up across the bigs, you'll no doubt want to stay tuned until the very end. MORE >>
